Summer Heat: Risks & Prevention
Summer heat is dangerous for a lost cat — dehydration and heatstroke are real risks. A cat without water in 90°F+ heat can dehydrate in hours.
Summer Risks
- Dehydration — the #1 risk.
- Heatstroke — body temperature above 105°F is life-threatening.
- Hot pavement — can burn paw pads.
- Snakes and predators — more active.
- Thunderstorms — sudden storms displace cats.
Summer Search Tips
- Provide multiple water sources in shaded spots.
- Search at dawn and dusk (even more important in summer).
- Place traps in full shade — check every 1-2 hours.
- Use dry food (wet food spoils in heat).
