⛈️ Storm Season
Peak: March - September (varies by region) · Risk Level: High
Storm Season: Risks & Prevention
Thunderstorms and hurricanes are major causes of lost cats. Loud thunder terrifies cats the same way fireworks do — they bolt in panic and hide.
Storm Risks
- Thunder panic — cats bolt through doors and screens.
- High winds — screens blow out, doors blow open.
- Flooding — cats displaced by rising water.
- Power outages — electric fences and gates fail.
- Post-storm chaos — cats disoriented by changed landscape.
Prevention Tips
- Keep cats indoors before storms arrive.
- Create a safe room for storm anxiety.
- Use a pheromone diffuser.
- Microchip your cat — essential for storm recovery.
- Keep collar with ID on your cat.
Post-Storm Recovery
- Search immediately after the storm passes.
- Check flooded areas carefully.
- Post in local Facebook groups — neighbours will be checking.
- Contact shelters — they often take in storm-displaced pets.
